King Lot

Bio:

During the time of High King Artorius, there was once a king by the name of Lot. The ruler of a land located in one of the furthest corners of Britannia, Lot was one of the many feudal lords whose fealty Artorius had to earn before he could truly reclaim his birthright as king and reunify a country that had been left shattered when his father Uthyr died. As was the case with many of the lords who rose to power after Uthyr's reign had ended, King Lot was previously connected with the prior king of all of Britannia in the past.

Long before Artorius was even born, Britannia was ruled by King Kustenhin, a man recognized in most history books as Uthyr's father and thus Artorius' paternal grandfather. Lot was a vassal in Kustenhin's court with some records even claiming he was a squire who once directly served Uthyr himself. After Kustenhin died, a series of events happened in which Kustenhin's successor and eldest son Moyne was murdered and his two remaining sons were exiled. When Uthyr and his other elder brother Emrys later returned to reclaim what was taken from them, Lot joined the armies the two brothers had gathered for this endeavor. Specifically, Lot joined the forces directly controlled by Uthyr. Lot served under Uthyr throughout the long campaign and continued doing so even after Emrys was poisoned and the right to claim the throne was passed unto Uthyr. After Uthyr ascended to kinghood and secured his dominion, Lot was eventually rewarded for his long service and loyalty with a sizeable piece of land for which to call his own. He wasn't made a king himself though per King Uthyr's decree that there would be only one king recognized throughout all of Britannia. Furthermore, there were some other duties that were still required of Lot by Uthyr aside from being a lord within his king's domain.

After Uthyr died, rather than compete for the once again empty throne like some other lords did, Lot instead declared his own little piece of Britannia a kingdom with himself as its king. Since his land laid on one of the most remote fringes of Britannia at the time, King Lot was able to keep to himself in his little personal kingdom without much interference from others for many years. As such, it was only towards the later part of Artorius' campaign to become king that Lot became acquainted with Uthyr's heir. Some records even go so far as to claim that it was only by then that Lot became actually aware of Artorius' very existence and campaign. In fact, there are even some accounts that say that because Lot's kingdom was considered so distant and remote, negotiations began before Artorius himself even stepped foot onto Lot's very kingdom.

When negotiations between Artorius and King Lot occurred, they were surprisingly peaceful. Rather than oppose Artorius like some lords did, Lot instead like some others swore fealty to Uthyr's heir, practically almost immediately without any apparent hesitation at all in his case if certain manuscripts are to be believed. While doing so would've challenged Lot's and his kingdom's sovereignty, thankfully no such complications came to pass as by the time Lot swore his fealty to Artorius, plans were already drawn for a devolved government system of sorts which would allow Lot and other lords like him to keep such things. The idea of this was that certain kingdoms and the like that rose after the fall of Uthyr's reign would not only be still recognized whilst under Artorius' reign but also still retain their sovereignty. As long as they acknowledged and swore allegiance to Artorius as the overall ruler of Britannia as well as follow certain laws, each and every one of them would pretty much keep their individual autonomy to certain varying degrees. In essence, unlike during Uthyr's reign which was an absolute monarchy in every sense of the word, Britannia under Artorius would be a country of united kingdoms. Overall, it was pretty much a massive compromise and it was not without its flaws especially given the time period but compared to what was employed during Uthyr's reign which completely and very easily fell apart the moment he died thanks to no backup whatsoever, it was far more stable if not more agreeable. At the very least, King Lot agreed to this when he swore fealty, seemingly.

In time, the one whom Lot swore his fealty to was able to ascend the throne and reunite all of Britannia. With his ascension, Artorius brought the country out from the dark age that came after his father's death and into a new golden one. Having allied with the usherer of this golden age of Britannia, Lot's personal kingdom like the rest of the country flourished in both peace and prosperity under Artorius' reign. The arrangement which Lot and other lords like him had with Artorius in particular greatly benefited them in spite of certain issues related to the time period they lived in back then. Eventually Artorius' influence expanded beyond Britannia's shores when certain kings from other countries impressed by his success, decided to swear their loyalty and lands to him, a thing that partially came about and evolved from what Lot had agreed to when he pledged his allegiance to Artorius. This not only resulted in Artorius' proper full title being changed from king to High King to better clarify things, but was also an accomplishment that only meant more prosperity for all those within the realm, something many believed no one would oppose to as it further enriched many such as lords like Lot.

With all that was going for King Lot being allied with High King Artorius, it really seemed like he had hit the jackpot. Not only was he allowed to remain a king and keep his kingdom but he was also benefitting from the numerous rewards that Artorius' seemingly constant string of successes brought. What's more, he being loyal to Artorius' father so long ago seemed to have paid off as well. Regardless of what people thought of Uthyr and his policies, having that apparent level of loyalty to a certain family was seen fondly in certain circles especially during those times. It seemed that for all his years of loyalty, of which spanned across almost two generations, Lot was being justly rewarded. Sadly, all of that wasn't what history remembers Lot most for.

What King Lot is remembered for involves a young maiden who was introduced as his daughter to Artorius and his court at a political summit in Camelot during a time that's commonly considered in history as the start of Artorius' role as High King. Claiming to have come as an ambassador on behalf of Lot, who was understandably very old by then, the princess quickly charmed everyone in Camelot, most in particular the High King himself. What followed afterwards was an affair whose shocking truth behind it once revealed not only caused feelings of betrayal and heartbreak but also ones of horror and revulsion. It was an incident whose severe consequences thereafter reverberated throughout the rest of High King Artorius' reign and beyond into modern times. It was a tragedy that affected a great many deal of lives and its insidious instigator was none other than Lot.

Notes:

Similar to my other Arthurian based characters, King Lot is based on a character from the Arthurian legends and mythos. I've taken certain liberties with the character in keeping with the story I've set up for these characters I made.
I chose the Kustenhin variant of the name of Arthur's paternal grandfather from some sources in order to differentiate it a bit from another Constantine.
I chose Moyne and Emrys instead of Constans and Ambrosius Aurelianus/Aurelius Ambrosius respectively for Uthyr's brothers in order to give a sort of shared theme naming based around the letter "y" between the three brothers. I also chose Moyne instead of Constans in order to not add another individual with a similar sounding name to the Constantine issue.
